Heja App Review

The vast majority of sports scheduling apps are built for every sport that exists plus as many other activities that involve groups of people.

The Heja scheduling app falls under this same basic category so this is where you need to start when you’re looking at reviews of different sports and activity scheduling apps like Heja, TeamSnap, Spond, TeamStuff and the rest of the common “mass market” generalized sports scheduling apps.

Under this criteria, Heja works really well as a single purpose scheduling app and is a great alternative to TeamSnap or Spond… which are also very good sports scheduling apps.

But decisions like this are never able to be made in isolation because there is always more to a sports than “scheduling and messaging” so these other factors need to be taken into account when choosing the best sports scheduling app for your team.

One of the foundational problems all sports teams and sports clubs have with technology is support and maintenance of multiple software platforms.

Loading and managing teams and coaches on multiple platforms is a massive headache and consumes far too many man hours better spent on things that really have a positive impact on the successful operation of a sports organization… like more time on the pitch, more time coaching, more time analyzing game footage, etc.

This is where Heja will fall flat and bloody its nose compared to better sports apps that not only manage the scheduling and messaging but also perform the rest of the necessary functions of a sports team.

Because Heja is very limited in scope, and only manages 1 aspect of the 5 or 6 things you need, you’re naturally going to be forced into using Heja plus 4 or 5 different software platforms creating added complexity and a massive internal cost of maintenance.

So what’s the answer to sports club software tech?

That depends upon the question, but if you’re asking, “what’s the best free sports scheduling app for soccer (football / futbol)” then the answer is clearly different.

The easiest thing to do is “judge a book by its cover” and simply choose the free sports scheduling app that’s named after your sport and assume it knows, and loves, your specific sport more than any other software option.

Hudl isn’t a scheduling app but it is a game video analysis tool and when you look at their name, it’s pretty obvious they love the “football” where the players where big pads and “huddle” before each play.

SocrPro is obviously going to have more love for “soccer” than any scheduling app that treats soccer like a “generic sport” and tries to satisfy them all.

  • SocrPro vs TeamSnap — Are you just another “team”?
  • SocrPro vs Spond — Are you hoping that people “respond” in a generic way?
  • SocrPro vs Heja — Looking for people to “cheer you on”?

When you simply look at the names, one name answers the question about what team scheduling app is going to be the best for a soccer team and what other apps are going to be goods for “other” sports and activities.

But is that it… just choose from the name?

No, that is a good starting point and sets the theme, but you should look deeper and you’ll discover things in the SocrPro scheduling app that neither Heja, nor any other scheduling app, have thought of in the same way SocrPro has because only SocrPro cares about your specific needs for your specific sport.

For example, SocrPro goes beyond the basics of “Game Start Time” and “Game Finish Time” and lets you add a “Departure Time” and “Arrival Time” because travel teams / college teams often need to know when the team bus / van is leaving from the school or the hotel.

The “Field Number” is an obvious item for soccer, that some scheduling apps still forget to this day, but who else makes “Kit Color” a standard informational field except SocrPro?

Taking things a giant leap further for travel teams, SocrPro is the only free sports app to have a complete “Itinerary System” that organizes every aspect of the day from “Wake Up Time”, to coaching reviews, chaperones, transportation and all your meals.

In fact, SocrPro actually has a complete “Meal Planner” so the team admins, players and coaches can easily communicate meal plans and special needs all through the app.

Ask any team admin how many hours of frustration this 1 meal planning module is going to save, or, try coordinating a meal on your own and you’ll quickly understand how important this one module is for any tournament, showcase or out of state game.

Lastly, SocrPro is the only scheduling system that allows you to attach your practice sessions to your specific practice schedule. Now that’s a huge time saver that makes planning easy.

If you were simply comparing the Heja scheduling app to the SocrPro scheduling app, this part alone would convince you to go with SocrPro but then you need to look at all the other benefits that SocrPro brings your soccer team.

Coaching System — Sport specific game analysis tool built to be fast and simple to use

Video Sharing — Proprietary system that makes full game sharing 1-click simple so everyone can have, and use, a copy of the original video to chop out their highlights, make coaching videos, do remote coaching… and more without ever affecting the source video.

Scheduling — See above

Messaging — Even allows attachments

Registration System — Automates the entire sign up and payment process

E-commerce — Sell anything, not just memberships

Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) — Automates your communication and marketing

Surveys — Built into the CRM so you know how to keep your players and parents on board with your program.

Session Planner — Create and share your sessions with other coaches who can also share their sessions with you.

Player Evaluations — Save countless hours every season and look more professional.

Performance Profile — Track the progress of players throughout the season.

Player’s Pages — Players love to showcase their highlight videos on their own personalized page / URL and it allows them to list any information they choose for college / pro recruiting coaches. The days of using complicated video editors to create multiple YouTube videos are over!

There’s more included but I think this is enough to demonstrate the difference between a stand alone, single function app, versus a full “system” that makes everything easier because it all works together.

Learn 1 system and maintain 1 team / club data base of players and coaches for everything you’re doing today with the added features to bring your club to the next level.

Is Heja a good free sports scheduling app? The answer to this question is “yes”.

The key is that you need to figure out if that is the correct question for you to be asking. If you’re a soccer coach or run a soccer club, then the answer to the Heja question you should be asking is likely “no”… because you need more to be successful, save time and save money.
